We have lot’s of new yarn on the way this month and the first one I want to introduce to you is Abstract Fiber.
Abstract Fiber is a small company based in Portland, Oregon owned by Susan Stambaugh. Susan uses only the highest quality yarn bases and dyes and it really shows in the finished product. The first time I met Susan was at the TNNA show in January. She was methodically going through one of the sample skeins she had on display because she thought there might be a knot in the skein. She won’t sell a skein if she thinks there might be a knot in it since she wants all her customers to be completely happy with the yarn. That’s real attention to detail! All of the yarn is dyed in small batches and each skein is unique. Susan really comes up with some amazing colors ranging from subtle semi solids to fun variegated combinations.
We are currently carrying two Abstract Fiber bases at Doodlebug Yarn – Super Sock and Mighty Sock.
Super Sock is 100% Superwash Merino Wool with a nice tight twist. This base is incredibly soft and the twist will make it durable for long wearing socks. I love the way it takes color – the colors are strong and vibrant. This is one of my favorites, To The Nines. I love how the bright pink and green are mixed in with black. Just a little bit edgy and unique. I may have reserved one of these for myself.

Mighty Sock is a blend of 50% Tencel for strength and 50% Merino Wool for softness. This base takes the dye in a more subtle way and the colors are soft and muted. While the Tencel adds strength, it also adds a beautiful drape and sheen making it perfect for your next lacy shawl project. This is Sweet Pea, just perfect for Spring!

I know that you’ll just love these new yarns as much as I do. I can’t wait to start on the socks I have planned with To The Nines!
