Little Red in the City

New this week is Little Red in the City, the long anticipated book by Ysolda Teague.  Not merely a book of patterns, this book includes extensive information on how to get the best sweater fit, no matter the size.

Ysolda Teague is a young Scottish designer who has published popular knitting patterns in Twist Collective and Knitty, as well as two books in her Whimsical Little Knits series.   The meticulous detail around sizing and fit make this book very special.

The book includes seven patterns that range in sizes 28-60 inch finished bust.  Beautifully illustrated,  there are multiple pictures of each sweater and a story on how the design came to be.  Modeled by Ysolda and Amanda Allen, you can see how the sweaters look on more than one body type.

In addition to the patterns, there are chapters on selecting a yarn, swatching, taking measurements, choosing a size, creating a great fit, and blocking.  There are also chapters on the techniques that might be new to some knitters like different short row methods and provisional cast-ons.

Another clever thing that Ysolda did is include a code in each book so the purchaser can download each pattern in PDF form.  I think this is just brilliant!  I love to keep my books neat and tidy and I love the idea of having an additional copy of the pattern for notes.

There are multiple discussions going on on Ravelry on these patterns as well as a knit-a-long for Cria.

This book is sure to find a place on every knitter’s shelf, both beginners and advanced.

Unti next time, happy knitting!
