Have you seen The Beekeeper Quilt pattern on Ravelry yet? It’s by Tiny Owl Knits and you can see a video on the construction here. I had a love at first site moment with this. I instantly downloaded the pattern, headed to the fabric store to buy stuffing and whipped out 4 hexipuffs in one afternoon. You knit little hexagons in the round and put a tiny bit of stuffing in each one and then bind it off. When you have the quantity of puffs to complete your blanket, you tie them together as if you were putting ties in a fabric quilt. No sewing required - genius! It’s like potato chip knitting – you can’t stop at just one!
Here’s my 4 little puffs:
I’m using my multitudes of sock yarn scraps for this project. There were a couple of years where I traveled non stop for work and only knit socks since they were so small and easy to take along with me. I have a ridiculous stash of leftovers from various socks. Just the other day, I was thinking about finally throwing them all away and along comes this pattern. Perfect timing. Here’s a handful of scraps that I pulled out to get started with. A tiny fraction of what I have to work with. I actually don’t remember what some of them are. But some of them I remember quite clearly like the Koigu that became a pair of socks for my husband or the Sea Silk that I knit while on a trip to Paris. Each little puff is like a trip down memory lane.
This is a perfect project for when you just have a little time or want something super simple to work on. I actually had to hide it from myself so I can finish up my Vitamin D.
I’ve also been hard at work doing some updates on the website. I decided to include a close up picture of each yarn so you can really see the detail. The pictures of the skeins are still available as well if you want to see what they look like. Here’s the close up of Fibre Company Canopy Fingering Acai:
I love how you can see the texture up close and I hope you like it too. This is a pretty big project but I hope to have all the yarns done by the end of August. In the meantime, please pardon the construction.
I hope you all have a great week!
