Selfish Knitting

It always happens.  I’ll be working away on a big project, making a ton of progress and WAM!  I get hit by the desire to cast on something small.  My excuse this time is that I’m in the middle of my second fingering weight sweater in six weeks – Abigail by Cecily McDonald Glowick.  I LOVE this sweater and am super excited to wear it but that’s a whole lot of tiny stitches.  So, the only thing to do is take a little break and knit something quick for a sense of accomplishment.

This is Katahdin by Kate Gagnon Osborn from Kelbourne Woolens and it’s a free pattern available at The Fibre Company .  It uses two skeins of super soft Acadia in two different colors and the sample is knit in Wild Onion for the main color and Amber for the contrasting color.  Acadia is a new yarn that was just introduced over the summer and is a lovely blend of  Merino wool, Alpaca and Silk.

With the weather getting cooler by the day, I’ve been completely obsessed with hats, especially slouchy ones. I think this one has exactly the right amount of slouch – so cute!  The pattern is perfect for any level of knitter and includes instructions for jogless stripes in the round.   I hardly every knit a pattern in the same colors as the sample but these two colors are too pretty together to pass up.

If your in the mood to start your holiday gift knitting, this would be a great present for a good friend and a chance to try out a lovely new yarn.  Or, you could just be selfish like me and knit one for yourself!
