Shibui Merino Worsted

I’m having the most perfect Monday!  I’ve been spending a lot of time working on inventory and rearranging yarn in the shop today.  It just makes me so happy to look at all the colors and textures and think about the fantastic projects you will create with these gorgeous yarns.

While I was doing all this organizing, I thought it might be fun to take some time each week to highlight a yarn or other product from Doodlebug and give you a little more detail about it, show some additional pictures, and talk about why I decided to carry it in the shop.

I’ll start us off this week with Shibui Merino Worsted.  This is a fantastic 100% Merino Wool yarn that comes in lots of gorgeous colors – both variegated and semi-solid.  This is one of my favorite super wash yarns because the yarn is such high quality.  Even though this yarn is extremely soft, it’s also hard wearing and still looks great use after use.

Shibui means elegant with a touch of bitterness in Japanese and they try to bring that sentiment to all of their products.  They are based in Portland, Oregon, a city known for art and creativity and I think it really shows in their unique color palette.  There are beautiful colors for both children and adult garments.

Here are a couple great brights that would be wonderful for the little ones in your life:

That’s Spectrum on the top and Zinnia on the bottom.  I made this cute kimono for a friend who is expecting her first baby:

While still a variegated colorway – Breeze – it’s a little more subtle than Spectrum and Zinnia.  This sweet little kimono took only a little more than one skein and was a very quick and easy knit.

There are also sophisticated semi-solid colors for adult sweaters:

Starting at the top this is Seaweed, Peacock, Ink, Mulberry and Pagoda.

I made this Mondo Cable Pulli from Bonne Marie Burns of Chic Knits and I love wearing it.  The color is Wasabi and it’s the most popular Shibui color.  It’s so soft and comfortable next to my skin.

These are just a few of the colors available and you are sure to find the perfect one for your next project.  I’m really excited to carry Shibui – I love their modern aesthetic,  unique view on color and the high quality of the fibers that go into the creation of each of their yarns.

This lovely yarn. and all worsted weight yarn,  is on sale at 25% off for the remainder of January.

I hope you all enjoyed a fantastic Monday and the rest of the week is great too!

Happy knitting,
Gayla
