Success!

I finally managed to do a provisional cast on.

I guess this is one case where being stubborn worked in my favor.  When I couldn’t grasp the Lucy Neatby method, I was thinking about doing a long tail and seaming it.  In fact, I was headed down that path but I knew I would never be happy if I didn’t do it the right way.  I finally just went with the crochet chain method and picked up a stitch in each of the loops.  Sometimes it’s just easiest to go with the tried and true.  Hopefully I won’t be back on Monday whining that I can’t undo the cast on to graft the stitches!

These are the socks that I’m working on.  The pattern is Pinata socks by Star Athena.  The top band is knitted flat and then the rest of the sock is picked up and knit down.  The yarn is Fiesta Baby Boom in Burnished Red and I really wanted a pattern that would work well with the variegation.  The yarn is really nice to work with and it comes in a lot of really fun colors.  This pair is for my husband to wear while cheering for his team during March Madness.  I really need to do a lot of knitting this weekend – the tournament is just around the corner.

We were supposed to have out of town guests this weekend but they had to cancel because of illness.  Now I have a weekend with nothing planned and I’m not sure what to do with myself.  From the looks of the first picture, I probably should clean my desk.  What do you do with unexpected free time?
