Whenever I get a new yarn in the shop, I have an overwhelming desire to cast something on immediately. Last week it was the lovely Canopy Fingering from The Fibre Company. I knew I had to pick a perfect project for it and I think I did!
First the yarn. This is a wonderful blend of Baby Alpaca, Merino Wool and Bamboo. It’s treat to knit with, so soft yet the ply is tight enough to give you a nice tight stitch definition with no split stitches. I’ve had to rip back a few rows and the stitches when right back on the needles with no issues and no sign of wear and tear.
But, the real magic of this yarn happens when you wash and block your swatch. It turns into something really special – soft and drapey, and oh so yummy!
There are so many colors that range from soft to vibrant that it was hard to choose but River Dolphin kept calling my name. Here’s a close-up, isn’t it gorgeous?
And here is the equally lovely Guava for those of you who prefer a bigger pop of color:
So, on to the project. Knowing that I wanted a sweater that would have a nice drape, I picked Vitamin D by the talented Heidi Kirrmaier. I’ve been looking at this pattern and stalking the projects on Ravely for quite some time and decided to take the plunge.
The pattern is well written and the level of detail is outstanding. It has a unique construction using radial increases to shape the shoulders and fronts that create a pattern of eyelets. It’s so pretty and feminine. This is a “just one more row” project and I can barely stand to put it down. I love watching the eyelets form across the back and can’t wait to wear it. There is some interesting shaping with short-rows but the designer explains them very clearly. If you’ve been thinking about giving this sweater a go, you should do it! It isn’t complicated at all and I think the finished result will be really lovely.
SInce we’re expecting hot weather this weekend, I have plenty of indoor knitting planned. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Happy knitting!
Gayla
